Toy Stables; select your own colour schemes Toy Stables; choice of colour tints Toy Stables; choice of colour tints and base finishes Toy Stables; choose from a range of colour tints and base finishes Toy Double stable house with honey tinted roof 1:12

The stable-house on the right has had a mix of clear and honey tints applied to it’s roof.  The ‘thatch’ or distressed look has been achieved with careful sanding between coats, finishing off with a final application of clear matt Osmo® to lock in the honey tint.

The exterior walls have had a single application of Osmo® white tint followed by two clear matt coats to retain the white wash look.

All our doors and windows have been hand branded to produce a panelled effect and then coated in a tint to match either the roof or left natural with coatings of clear Osmo®.

All of our stables and farm building come with the standard handles as seen above.   However, if requested, we can fit with hand formed brass D looped handles as seen opposite.

The stable-house to the right had such an attractive grain that we were in two minds on whether to apply a tint or leave it natural using a clear matt Osmo®.  But as you can see, we decided a light application of slate Osmo® tint would help enhance the grain’s natural beauty.  The final coating of  Osmo® clear matt locks in and retains the colour tint, aids durability and the natural oil and waxes will keep the birch ply in tip top condition for years to come.

Each of our double Stable houses are cut out from two large 8 m x 4 m sheets of  locally supplied FSC European birch plywood.  Each sheet will have been personally selected for it’s suitability for our toys.  We purposely select those sheets that have either a distinct grain or fleck as we feel these qualities are especially attractive when used on our roofs and doors etc.

All of the hinges, screws and door handles on our stables are made from solid brass.  The hinges have all had their corners hand sanded to fit neatly into their recessed positions - giving a quality flushed fit.  The screws are then held firmly in place with solid brass nuts. (Please note, these will need checking over time - spares will be provided with each stable.)

The door knobs seen here are standard, and we also provide two hay net rings, as seen on the stable below, and come fitted to the outside wall.

Our standard base frontage, as shown, has embossed herringbone brick detail cut into the ply, again, this will have had at least two layers of Osmo® applied to both sides in order to protect and seal in the natural beauty of the birch ply.  We  also offer the base embossed with our standard flagstone detail, if preferred.

The stable-house above has had it’s roof  and walls coated in two coats of  clear matt Osmo®, allowing the

natural beauty of the birch grain to show through.

The doors and windows have had an initial clear matt coating of Osmo® followed by a light sanding before applying a honey tint.

Once dried, a more harsh sanding will have been applied to give a pleasant distressed appearance.

A third and final application of Osmo® coating is then needed to seal in the tint.

The underside of each stable or barn base is fitted with Flotex™ glider pads to protect surfaces.  Our Grovely Wood registered Trade Mark will also be

embossed to the underside to provide provenance,

along with a hidden unique branded serial number.

Toy Finishes

All of our toy stables and accessories will have had at least two protective coatings of Osmo® (Osmo® uses all natural waxes and oils), the coating will allow the natural beauty of the birch grain to be retained. Up to three coats of Osmo will be applied, and the overall finish will require at least three weeks to harden sufficiently, giving the toy increased durability. Osmo® forms an extremely hardwearing, dirt-resistant and water repellant surface.

Although we carry a small range of built stable-houses we encourage individuality.  So why not select your own choice of roof, walls and base to produce a distinctly individual toy. As every sheet of birch ply will react slightly differently to the number of clear or tinted Osmo® coatings applied, and also the level of pressure and gauge of sanding materials between coats, this means that each and every toy stable (stable-house) will have a truly unique appearance.

Please note: Due to all of our toys being hand finished to specific colour requirements and individual specifications,

we cannot accept responsibility for colour or texture variations from product to product.

The roof of the cow barn to the left has a rich terra Osmo® tint applied to both it’s roof and doors/windows.  Two clear matt applications of Osmo® will have then been applied on top of the terra tint and to all other surfaces.  This gives our toy’s  both a beautiful natural look with the added protective qualities of the natural oils and waxes, which, when hardened over a three week period, will produce a hardwearing durable surface.
