The Grovely Wood toy horse is made by bringing together layers of  multi layered birch ply. The layers are first cut to shape, and then held together whilst Emily hand sands the form to produce the distinct horse features. Once the shape has been sanded to perfection it’s time for Emily to paint the horse with a mix of Osmo® oil/wax, using tints to match the desired colour.  Once fully dried and hardened, the horse will be ready to be firmly glued together or it’s at this stage the mane and tail will be inserted. A further coat of natural Osmo® oil/wax will be applied to produce a beautiful and enduring toy.

Send us a photo of your own or favourite horse or pony

and we will try and match its colour and markings.

If you can provide a workable lock of your own horses mane or tail (we prefer mane if at all possible as it’s not as coarse as the horse tail and easier to work with) then we can arrange to have this built into your keepsake, producing a very special and personal gift.  

Whilst we keep a limited stock of  our toy horses for immediate purchase, we really enjoy being able to produce a special Keepsake horse which incorporates your own colour specifications. If you would like particular markings such as socks/stockings/blaze etc, then please email Emily direct with either a sketch or photo of your requirements and she’ll do her best to replicate them on your Keepsake.

  Please allow extra time to customise existing stock, or in the case of  Fifi below, making your special Keepsake to a  particular size.  

If you are providing clippings from your own horse or pony’s mane or tail, (we will need about 8” in length) then please ensure

 that it’s sent to Emily, at the address below, held together in a bunch or hank (not sent loose in the envelope) remembering to

include your name, telephone number and return address.

Please send via Royal Mail ‘Signed for’ service or Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed if irreplaceable.

We generally try to maintain a quantity of our standard horses for immediate purchase, however, if you require one as gift for a special occasion, then it’s best to contact us direct so we can check availability.

When sending instructions for markings or when supplying horse clippings, for your special keepsake horse with presentation box, don’t forget to let us know the name you would like engraved on the box lid, horse or recipients name (max 10 characters)   We also produce the Keepsake Presentation Box in natural birch - photo to be posted soon.
